Coaster 2 Coaster: The Iowa Cocktail

What you are about to read will have you running to the nearest store to grab all of the ingredients - and possibly to Iowa to grab the vodka that is known to bring less of a hangover the next day. Who wants to road trip!?

The Tipsy Traveler

Hello to all the lovely readers of 5 O'Clock Fashionistas! I'm Eleni, and I'm a lifestyle blogger at

, based in Des Moines, Iowa. I was super excited to guest post in the Coaster 2 Coaster series, for two reasons: 1. I love talking about Des Moines, and 2. I love cocktails!

Coming up with an Iowa cocktail was a bit harder than I thought it would be, mainly because Iowa does not have a state fruit, which was going to be my first strategy in choosing the ingredients. But that just gave me more freedom to choose any fruit I wanted! Several of my friends suggested I use corn, but hey,

Nebraska got there first

To represent Iowa in a cocktail, I chose to start with a drink produced right here in Iowa and created by a professor at my great alma matter, Iowa State University.

Johannes van Leeuwen is the developer of IngeniOz vodka

, which is said to be the purest vodka on the market and guaranteed to leave you with less of a hangover the next day – who doesn't want that? And let me tell you: it is GOOD.

I added a splash of rum, because rum is awesome, and use blackberry and peach flavors to capture the wild and sweet summertime feel of Iowa that I love so much. The name is a nod to one of my favorite "landmarks" in Des Moines, which is the vintage Travelers sign downtown, and the fact that the cocktail has three different liquors and miiiight leave you a little wobbly when you stand up ;)

Enjoy! -E

Ingredients (makes 1 cocktail)

4-6 blackberries

1 oz. IngeniOz vodka

.5 oz. spiced rum

.5 oz 99 Proof Blackberries

8 oz. white-cran peach juice

Put blackberries in the bottom of an empty glass and muddle slightly to release a little bit of juice, but leaving the berries mostly intact. Using a cocktail shaker, add vodka, rum, 99, juice, and ice and shake until chilled. Pour over blackberries and add a few ice cubes. Add more blackberries if desired.
