Coaster 2 Coaster: The Colorado Cocktail

Now, there are a few things I know about Colorado. It's great for hiking and marijuana is legal. Apparently, it also has a great beer culture. That I didn't know until the lovely Carolyn created the Colorado Cocktail.

When Jacque asked me to craft up a cocktail that reflects my home state of Colorado, I was so excited but also a littler nervous. Colorado has only been my home for less than a year! I felt the pressure to do it justice a little too heavily. But, once I put a little thought into it the answer was obvious: a beer cocktail, of course! 

Beer is one of the defining characteristics of Denver and all of Colorado. There are countless breweries covering the state, all of them producing some of the greatest craft beers you'll ever taste. Denver is home of the annual

Great American Beer Festival

 attended by people all over the country. Sunny summer weekends mean packed tap rooms, most of which are dog-friendly! 

It really is as great as it sounds. 

Now, a beer cocktail might sound like total blasphemy to the purist out there. I get it. I was skeptical too! And it's true this cocktail may not be fore everyone, and it's not the kind of thing that can be achieved with any variety of beer. 

But, if you're into super crisp, refreshing, and flavor packed, don't turn your head so quickly. For this Colorado Lemon Cooler I used the Snapshot Wheat from one of my Colorado favorites: New Belgium Brewing. It's light bodied designed for drinking in the warm summer months. 

It's got some subtle citrus flavors, and this cocktail is intended to bring those out. Lemon vodka and lemon soda help this drink go down smooth. It will undoubtedly cool you off on the hottest of days! 



makes 1 cocktail


6 oz. (3/4 cup) What Beer, such as New Belgium Sunshine Wheat

6 oz. (3/4 cup) Lemon Soda ( I used San Pellegrino)

1.5 oz (3 tbsp.) Lemon Vodka (I used Deep Eddy)

1 lemon wedge


Fill a pint glass (or other large highball glass) with ice. Gently add the beer and then the lemon soda. Squeeze a fresh lemon wedge over the top and gently stir with a straw. Enjoy immediately!
