Coaster 2 Coaster: The North Carolina Cocktail

If you know me then you know I love a good Thirsty Thursday. Today, I am excited to share with you the North Carolina cocktail from a personal friend and amazing blogger: Susannah!

Peaches and tea are just the beginning. Check it out!

Peach Tea Old Fashioned

Hello there! I'm Susannah from the blog

Feast + West

, and I'm excited that Jacque has asked me to share a cocktail recipe with 5 o'Clock Fashionistas today. On my blog, I share a lot of recipes, travel tips and design guides. (And a

cocktail

every week!) My love language is food that tells a story or sends you on a walk down memory lane.

When Jacque asked me to design a North Carolina themed cocktail, I wasn't sure which direction to take it. There is so much diversity in our food culture here in my home state. With each passing year, I grow more inspired by the food we grow and eat. I ultimately drew my inspiration from our Southern roots and from the farmers market, which has been selling out of peaches the last few weeks.

Here in the South, we drink a lot of 'sweet tea.' If I drink iced tea when I go out, I prefer to order a 'half-and-half tea,' meaning half sweetened and half unsweetened. Sometimes we even flavor our tea with fruits and herbs.

A friend introduced me to tea-infused spirits when I make cocktails, and I decided to try it when I dreamed up this Peach Tea Old Fashioned. You'll first infuse the whiskey with one or two tea bags – I used Earl Grey  – for about 30 minutes. Then, muddle a sugar cube, bitters and a couple of peach slices and top with the tea-infused whiskey. Add ice and drink up! Cheers!

Recipe Serves 1

1 1/2 oz whiskey

1-2 tea bags

2 dashes Angostura bitters

1 sugar cube

2-3 fresh peach slices

a few dashes plain water

Method

In a glass or liquid measuring cup, pour whiskey over 1-2 tea bags. Let sit for 15 to 30 minutes, or longer for a stronger tea flavor.

Place sugar cube in an old fashioned glass. Saturate with the bitters and add a dash of plain water.

Add peach slices. Muddle until sugar is dissolved.

Fill the glass with ice cubes and add the tea-infused whiskey. Garnish with additional peach slices if desired.
