Traditional Cocktails: Margarita

Ok... maybe this isn't as classic as the sazerac or the manhattan. But next Monday is national margarita day so I had to embrace my inner margarita nerd. If you don't know already I love a good cocktail. I HATE cocktails that give me an instant headache. I'm talking the kind of cocktail that you can tell will give you a hangover, after the first sip! There are often times that margaritas can give you this feeling. And that is most definitely because of the sugar. This is probably not a fact baked up by science. A perfect solution to this is making a fresh margarita. Ditch the pre made mixed because you really don't need them. The secret ingredient to an amazing margarita is fresh lime juice. 

Drink that margarita with pride! Limes are fruits so it's healthy... ya know? Recipe below!

Ingredients (makes 1)

1 1/2 oz silver tequila

1 ounce cointreau

1 ounce freshly-squeeze lime juice

lime wedge (optional)

Salt for rim if desired


First rim your glass with lime juice and salt, optional. In a shaker add remaining ingredients and shake well. Strain in to margarita glass and enjoy! Fresh lime juice is the key to success with this recipe!
